Pizza Margherita
Once in a while I have a good idea. This pizza was definitely a golden moment for me. When I was younger my family travelled abroad and I ordered this pizza in a lot of different countries. Rarely have I seen it in the United States. I know California Pizza Kitchen makes a Margherita pizza, but its not on the menu a lot of places I would expect to find it. How I Want My Local News
I’m sick of online news. Especially local news. Local newspapers do one of two things, they batter you with ads (Google Adsense or similar) or they are shockingly short on content. Some are both. “Read more in the Nov 15th print edition.” No thanks, I’m reading the online edition right now because I don’t like picking up a paper newspaper. Medium I realize that there are people who have to feel the newsprint in their hand in order to enjoy the experience, but I have always found a newspaper to be unwieldy and difficult. My dislike stems from reading the newspaper as a child and have trouble using my small body to manipulate the big paper. Hydroponics Update: The basil is growing like a weed.
About a month into this little experiment, the basil is growing very well. The roots now reach into the bottom of the reservoir, I may have to find another bucket to set the basket into while I am cleaning/refilling the main reservoir. I don’t want to damage the roots while I’m working. The mildew begins to grow after about three and a half days, and it has been a persistent issue. I have been soaking things down in hydrogen peroxide when I am rinsing/cleaning/changing the water and adding nutrients. I will try to get some more pictures up soon.
From Scratch: Fettucini Marinara
I hate canned food. It is all well and good when you’re on a boat at sea for 28 days, at that point canned food is even good, but day-to-day it sucks. I love to make pasta with tomato sauce, but I always bought canned tomatos in order to make it. That changed today! I took four pounds of fresh tomatos and blanched, de-seeded, sliced, diced, and reduced them into a delicious red sauce. While I was waiting for the tomato sauce to simmer down, I decided to try my hand at making a simple pasta. I may put the recipe up later, if people are interested. Affixing the air-stone in the reservoir
My air-stone likes to float. Air being pumped into air does nothing to aerate my nutrient solution, so I had to devise a way to secure the stone to the bottom of my reservoir. I had a suction cup attached to metal ring, from an iPhone screen replacement I just did, so I ran the air supply hose through ring and stuck the suction cup to the bottom of the reservoir. Perfect, it didn’t float up to the surface anymore. I ran the pumps for a few minutes while I figured out my preferred placement for everything, then I shut it down and left it while my seeds germinated in the closet. I was running an outdated version of TimThumb with a known vulnerability for a while, I updated my install a while back but apparently some naughty code was left behind and recently became active.
